Do The Write Thing’s aim is to curb bullying in schools through active discussion in the classrooms. According to the National Campaign to Stop Violence, the creator of the Do The Write Thing program, the most effective way to stop violence in schools is through early prevention and communication.

As a member of Do The Write Thing’s Palm Beach County Steering Committee, Pepe Fanjul Jr. took part in the essay judging process. Florida Crystals also underwrote the awards banquet, which occurred on May 9 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. Pepe Fanjul Jr. appeared as a guest speaker at the event, whose 600 attendees included principals, teachers, parents and students. More than 19,000 Palm Beach County middle school students participated in this year’s challenge. The 2011 program exceeded last year’s enrollment of nearly 14,000 students in 19 schools across the Palm Beach County.

Pepe Fanjul Jr., executive vice president of Florida Crystals, has also volunteered his time to help judge the essay writing competition, Pepe Fanjul Jr. said, “My wife and I became involved in Do the Write Thing many years ago and continue to support it, because we have small children and we have come to learn about the many challenges children face in schools today. We are encouraged by the growth we’ve seen each year of this important program in Palm Beach County.”
